11 Reasons Why I Love TRUE BLOOD

It’s been quite a long time since I wrote a take of tv series, which is Glee, the only tv review I had before this one. The forth season of True Blood just ended one month ago, I knew this show but I barely didn’t know about good thing of why people should grab this one, until the beginning of October I tried to catching up and found the reasons people adore this vamp thing.

The first and only reason of why I really want to know about this show is a lot of accolades this show got so easily. So many, let’s say Golden Globes for the faerie barmaid and its nomination for the show itself but too bad that custom ended early this year when the third season didn’t get crowd pleasers like before. I know why but it still great.

True Blood created by Allan Ball, a fiftysomething guy who previously won Academy for his work; American Beauty, decade ago. He is also a guy who brought HBO to gloryness of watchers and rates through Six Feet Under. Based on Sookie Stackhouse Novel, also known as The Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. TV version is broadcast on HBO and so far four season has been aired.

True Blood centers on a fictional small town in the state of Louisiana, Bon Temps, where a lot of supernatural thing happens. The main character is Sookie Stackhouse, a twentysomething blonde girl who can be able to read people’s thoughts. She is working as barmaid at local bar own by her shape-shifter friend; Merlotte’s. She falls in love with vampire Bill as she found she can’t hear his mind which strange and make herself more curious about him.

That’s how the first season began. The introduction of complexities of vampire society that leads so many problem towards her and also some doubt of their relationship. The following season tell something more dark about supernatural thing, comes with Greek myth. The good thing is, this season received acclaims more than its precedessor got. The show got more complex in the two season after this.

I hooked on True Blood like crazy, tweeted all this thing and never realized it was this dope. I still have one more episode left to watch, which is the season four finale; “And When I Die”. Despite people’s comment of how the current season not as great as before, I still love this show. Season four get me so emotionally. I have been thinking what I’m gonna do when I see how the finale ends, what toxic I need to get to replace True Blood of hooking me? Why on earth I act very crazy about this?

Quirky dark humor
Case in the point of Lafayatte, unlikely hero of Bon Temps, one idiot brother of Sookie; Jason Stackhouse, and so many satirical headlines like “Angelina Adopts A Vampire Baby”. I don’t know which season I seen the magazine with that line, but I can’t forget it.

Opening title sequence created by Digital Kitchen
Along with catchy song from Jace Everett; Bad Things (I downloaded the clip from YouTube and often play it on my iPad), the opening can be seen in all episodes and really sets the tone of True Blood. As addictive as the show itself. This sequence features images of sex, violence, and religion. From what I read, all frames express how fanaticism of faith and sexuality could make human animalistic.

More gore, more scary, and more sex
Vampire on the shit-Twilight got nothing to do on how to bite, on Vampire Diaries is a bit simple and not intense. But True Bloos’s blood-suckers are more into it. They drain, feed from human like hungry animal, and then do violent sex. Remember when Bill get mad and twist Lorena’s head 180degrees? And some heart rip-off? Scary. And don’t get them wrong about showing plenty of nudity. It has purpose and that is how to set True Blood its dark side. However, the sex scenes are engaging.

You don’t need to see lockers
Both Twilight and Vampire Diaries sets highschool as the place where love between human and vampire happens. Don’t you really sick about chick thing? While two things above centered towards teens, instead True Blood goes in terms of adult themes, along with great story.

Social and political allegories
Pro-contra of vampire presence amplifies the reality of racialism. Their struggle interpreted as allegory for LGBT right. Vampires in True Blood are minority and trying to get equality. Allan Ball is gay, I suddenly remember of how a gay creator would add this case on the show with a good way just like Ryan Murphy did with his musical.

The promo, taglines, merchandises, and icon in it.
“Waiting sucks”, yes it really does. I love the poster, most of it shows its sensuality. I want to buy merchandises, especially Tru Blood drink. And Fangtasia or Merlotte’s bars are iconic.

Southern accent and f-bombs
I don’t know how to describe their accent, I just love it and want to learn how to pronounce words properly, very cool isn’t it? I also love the use of f-bombs. It’s pretty funny word. It can be as expression of surprise, madness, passion, or just ordinary talking.

Interesting characters (great ensemble cast)
How to tell whether an ensemble is great or no? That you can spend times trying to choose your favorite character. Together they encapsulates what the show really is. I like the difference of quirk that each character has. Rutina Wesley as Tara was my favorite, although now she isn’t as sarcastic as she was, she still interesting. I love to see the childlike sense of Jason and Andy’s stubbornness, which always give me pleasure of laugh. Lafayette’s deep voice always comes with his dark humor, and his over-the-top costumes are ridiculous funny. Both Arlene and her cautious side are strangely great. I hate all antagonists, whenever they comes to fill up each season’s conflict I wanna bite them, if only I had fang. Maryann and Lorena are badasses!

The beautifully written story and cliffhanger
The story is mature as in you see naked people. True Blood offers people the good amount of suspense and horror, along with heartbreaking conflict between Sookie and Bill that always happens. I both love and hate endings of each season, which leave me depressing, heartbreaking, and wanting more. I’m so curious about the changes and which direction the show will go. Cliffhanger ending used in almost every episode even each season's finale and leaves me breathtaking. This way ensure audience will return to see how the ending will be resolved on the next. I wish they knew how depressing it does of one year waiting.

The vampires
I think Pam is the strongest. Besides her lesbian and outfit weirdness, she is really standing up to her maker. She would do anything as long as bring goodness to both her and Eric. The depth of her relationship with Eric is really deep. She speak whatever she want. Jessica and Bill comes with their vulnerability. I wanna slap The Queen and Lorena whenever in frame. Eric is a tough viking. Another thing I really admire about True Blood’s vampires is the writers consistent with vampire myth. They can’t sparkle under the sun like Edward does. They can’t do daywalking like in Twilight and Vampire Diaries with their stupid ring. And vampire afraid of silver and wood.

Sookie Stackhouse
I understand the reason Anna Paquin earned Golden Globes. Sookie always running into trouble. She is strong and will do whatever she think right for people she love. She isn’t ordinary blonde girl. She is funny and the biggest scene stealer. It’s kind of miracle that she still alive until now. So many of her relative murdered or disappeared around her, and it never set her down. She is fairy, can pull out strange light from her hand. I’m sure it can be depressing to read people’s thoughts. She fights myth creatures. And she love both Bill and Eric.

There are some missing and unnecessary subplot in season four that left me confused and I thought there was shown only to give promoted role their own story. I still wondering why they missed the fae thing, as a matter of fact season four begins with Sookie trapped in that riduculous land. Ok they didn't missed it, instead they brought one fairy to earth with a silly way. Other unnecessary things are werephanter, the twist returns of Steve Newlin and Rene, unexpected lesbian turned of Tara and her useless girlfriend, etc. I've got no idea where is Sam's feeling to Sookie has been gone? I loved Tommy, he was fit to filled up his storyline with Sam but it was just weird the character got killed. They chose to tell another complex shape-shifter trouble to Sam instead of giving Tommy more. I also loved to see Hoyt and Jessica relationship that never be lasts forever. I'm ok with Debbie shot Tara, I just hope they wouldn't turn her to be zombie, vampire, or ghost. Why so many people got confused of her presumed death? I think whether Eric or Bill will come directly to Sookie (remember they feels Sookie's fear) to feed Tara.

So, whatever your reasons of liking True Blood are, I can agree on one thing:
This is a f**ckin addictive dope, baby!
